The ASAP informs the public on legal issues: parrots (excluding parakeets) are non-domesticated species and certain species are subject to strict regulations regarding their sale, transport, and trade.
The main mission of the ASAP is:
Sheltering parrots permanently (following their owner’s death, divorce, etc.) or lost parrots temporarily who are left with us in the hope they can be reunited with their owner.
To reach out to as wide an audience as possible, the ASAP engages in advocacy and educational/informational activities (with exposition stands and information brochures) through:
1) regular presentations in schools in line with established programmes and in partnership in particular with the National Forest Bureau or other bird protection organisations.
The goal is to inspire in youth an "awareness of nature and biodiversity".
2) informative and educational exhibits with other organisations (meetings of the Maisons-Alfort Veterinary School, certain breeder clubs, etc.).
3) interviews in the press and clips in different television programmes devoted to animals or other subjects (Dr Klein’s televised veterinary spots, 30 millions d'amis, Animag, Je passe à la Télé, etc.).
ASAP’s awareness campaigns have been picked up in articles in local, regional, and national press.
